Photo courtesy of Rod Williams. Rod Williams kindly contacted me recently with photographs of his William Cole armchair. This continues an interesting run of Cole armchairs coming to light. Rod's chair is similar to others, having four spindles, a (nicely figured) timber seat, and the typical Cole arm support turning that's so clearly different to Philip Clissett's. This chair, unlike some of the others, has narrow arms similar to those found on many of Clissett's spindleback armchairs. It also has, of course, the WC stamp on the top of both back legs.
To recap, we now know about a total of six armchairs. One of these has a low back, while all the others have high backs. All of these armchairs have timber seat save for a single highback which has seagrass, but was no doubt originally rush.
