Even more interesting is the variation in asking price. One at a mere £225, another at £595, and the third at a hefty £1400! None of these has an original seat, but the cheaper ones have old seat with substantial damage. The expensive one has a new seat. Otherwise, I can't really account for the price difference other than to say that this sort of variation seems normal for Clissett's work. Still £225 seems pretty cheap for a good Arts & Crafts chair.
Of course, if you're reading this long after publication, then the links above will almost certainly not work, as the items will have long gone from Ebay. But it's always worth looking. There are currently some spindleback side chairs, and a William Cole side chair as well
*I'm as sure as I can be, without hands-on examination, that all these chairs are from the Clissett workshop. If you're thinking of buying, you should satisfy yourself that they are what they seem to be. This guide may help.
