Philip Clissett's line of descent is given below. Note that different versions of this can be found amongst family trees on the web. None seem to have found the 1737 baptism of Samuel Clissett, probably because it is not in any of the on-line indexes (it is mistranscribed as “Clifton”, having been written in the parish register as “Clissom” with a long-s - see photo above). We are reasonably confident that our version is correct.
Roger Clissett (buried 20 Apr 1716 Earls Croome, Worcs.)
└Samuel Clissett (born 3 Apr 1704, Earls Croome, Worcs.)
└Samuel Clissett (bapt. 24 Apr 1737, Hanley Castle, Worcs.)
└Moses Clissett (bapt. 17 May, Pershore, Worcs.)
└Philip Clissett (born 8 Jan 1817, Birtsmorton, Worcs.)
More details about Philip Clissett's ancestors are available for download... We cannot guarantee that everything in the download is 100% correct, and urge you to double-check all information before including it in your own family history.
Philip moved from Birtsmorton to Bosbury in Herefordshire in about 1842. His elder brother, Cyrus, moved with his sons to Newport in South Wales in the first half of the 1860s. Further details of both their families are available for download...
Earlier Clissetts are known from the city of Hereford in the latter part of the 16th century, from whence a London branch of the family was formed. It has not proven possible to link the Hereford Clissetts with Roger Clissett. If anyone has any information about Clissett family members during the 17th century, then we'd be pleased to hear from you...
We have a large amount of information about Clissett genealogy, and will try to get as much as possible onto this site.
